Does it really help taking a vitamin and other supplements to get pregnant faster in contrast to those who avoid taking them? Can vitamins have an effect on enhanced fertility? The experts at the Texas Fertility Centre are of the view that vitamins have a massive role to play in this regard. Fertility consultants are of the opinion that a nutritious diet is crucial to ensuring that the baby is conceived. This is a reality with regard to both men and women.

When it comes to women, it is probably related to consuming decent prenatal vitamin. According to recently conducted research studies, women who consume good prenatal vitamin have their probability of having preterm birth significantly reduced while simultaneously decreasing the likelihood of pregnancy related nausea and vomiting; thereby enhancing fertility.

Researches show that women who go through fertility treatment, get pregnant faster than those who do not consume prenatal vitamins. As a matter of fact, a research study portrayed that the participants consuming prenatal vitamins had their probability of getting pregnant almost doubled in contrast to those who only took folic acid before conceiving.

This goes on to show that women who take prenatal women are likely to conceive earlier. American Pregnancy Association believes that a deficiency of zinc leads to poor production of semen. It is recommended that men take 11mg while women take 8mg of zinc. This dosage has been recommended by the Office of Dietary Supplements and the NIH. Moreover, experts also suggest foods such as oyster, lobster, crab, grains, milk products and beans for enhanced intake of zinc.

Folic Acid

Folic acid is one of the most  crucial parts of one’s diet even if one is just trying to conceive. Experts at the American Pregnancy Association recommend that women of child bearing age should consume approximately 400mcg of folic acid daily. It is one of the B vitamins that is used to make red blood cells in the body. The probability of undergoing a neural tube defect is significantly reduced if a woman takes folate in early pregnancy or even if it is present in one’s body during pregnancy. Anencephaly and spina bifida are a couple of conditions that arise owing to the neural tube defect in which the tube does not close in early gestation. You can consume folic acid or folate well before you conceive so that the requisite amount of the vitamin is present in the body during pregnancy. Both folate and folic acid are similar to each other. While folate is the natural form of Vitamin B, folic acid is the artificial or synthetic form. If one is not inclined towards consuming supplement, leafy green vegetables, whole grains and citrus fruits can be had as sources of folate acid.

Coenzyme Q10

Technically speaking, this is not exactly a vitamin but it is also a healthy supplement for women trying to get pregnant. According to research conducted on animals, addition of Coenzyme Q10 to older female mice improved their egg quality. Scientists are also carrying out research on human subjects in this regard. Coenzyme Q10 also seems to be beneficial for men. Mayo Clinic have revealed in their research that intake of supplement containing Coenzyme Q10 tends to increase their sperm count which in turn enhances a women’s capacity to get pregnant faster. A daily dosage ranging from 30 to 200mg is suggested for positive results.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

This fatty acid can be consumed by devouring plenty of cold water fatty fish, supplement containing fish oil, or oil obtained by nuts or other plants. These fatty acids have been known to be beneficial for in vitro fertilization.  A research study in Netherlands was conducted to assess the quality of embryo in women undergoing in vitro fertilization. The results of the said study revealed that the embryo were found to be in a healthier state in women consuming Omega 3 Fatty Acids in their diet supplements.

Iron

Women should be taking iron before they conceive so that they have the requisite amount of vitamin present in their body when the most required. Women who are not pregnant are suggested to take 18mg of iron on daily basis while a pregnant lady should consume 27mg daily. Iron is crucial to the development of haemoglobin so it comes up as a vital vitamin for both pregnant as well as non-pregnant ladies. Haemoglobin is the molecule that is responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the peripheral tissues as part of cellular metabolism. Whether in pill or liquid state, iron can also be taken in the form of solid diet such as leafy green vegetables, tofu and red meat.

Calcium

Calcium is an important diet ingredient for all women who can get pregnant. 1g of calcium is recommended for women who are striving to get pregnant. This enhances the calcium reserves and assist the baby in its growth and development. It can be consumed either as a separate supplement or as part of prenatal vitamin. Leafy green vegetables and milk are natural sources of calcium and are an organic alternative to synthetic pills.

Vitamin B6

Consumption of this vitamin prevents undesired symptoms of pregnancy from cropping up. Women should consume 10mg of the vitamin daily as it tends to decrease the frequency of morning sickness in pregnant women.

Antioxidants

This can be a vitamin that may be an antioxidant or a non-vitamin that may be an antioxidant. Vitamins A and C both have antioxidant powers. Experts believe that men with antioxidants as part of their diet have better semen quality than men who do not consume antioxidants.

In addition to supplements, antioxidants can also be consumed via food. Vitamin E is present in sunflower seeds and almonds while Vitamin C can be obtained from strawberries and oranges.

L Carnitine

L carnitine is especially beneficial for men when it comes to metabolism and maturity of sperm. It also tends to enhance sperm motility in men.
